ABOUT OUR PASTOR:
Rev. Louis G. Jones is a native of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and a graduate of the Public Schools of that city.
Rev. Jones is a graduate of Hampton Institute (University) where he received a BS in Psychology and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. Pastor Jones served as an Infantry Officer in the Republic of Viet Nam. After six years in the Army Rev. Jones departed the service as a Captain and became an employee of Philip Morris USA in Richmond, Virginia. He retired from Philip Morris effective January 1, 2005.
Rev. Jones joined the Gravel Hill Baptist Church in 1981. Here he served in many capacities including the Church School, the Male Quartet and on Oct. 3rd. 1982, he was ordained as a deacon by the Gravel Hill Baptist Church and later served as the Chairman of the Deacon Ministry until he preached his initial sermon on August 23, 1992. After being licensed to the gospel ministry, Louis entered the School of Theology of Virginia Union University and on May 13, 1995 was graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree.
In January of the same year, Louis began serving the Gravel Hill Baptist Church as Interim Pastor. Following his ordination in June of 1995 he was called by Gravel Hill as Pastor, and was installed on October 8th 1995. Louis became a member of the Baptist Ministers’ Union of Richmond and Vicinity and is currently the President of this body. He also serves as a member of the Budget Sub-Group for the Richmond Baptist Association. Rev. Jones is married to his high school sweetheart, the former Mary L. Alston and they have two adult children.
Pastor Jones is guided in his ministry by First Corinthians 9:16b: “I have no right to boast just because I preach the gospel. After all I am under orders to do so. And how terrible it would be for me if I did not preach the gospel!”
